Ann Curry

Ann Curry is an American photographer and journalist who has worked as a journalist for over 45 years focusing on the human suffering in war zones and natural disasters. Curry was a reporter in war-zones such as Kosovo Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo. Ann Curry, born November 19th 1956 (Agana) is an American journalist, who was an anchor on television. Curry was known for her coverage of the humanitarian crisis in war-ravaged countries as well as on natural catastrophes. Curry's maternal grandmother is Japanese and her father was an US Navy Sargent. Her father was with his mother in Japan while he was stationed in Japan following World War II. As a result of her father's active military service, the family relocated frequently. Curry completed her high school at Ashland Oregon. In 1978 she graduated in 1978 from her school at the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree in journalism. Her exposure to different cultures and the experiences she had during her growing up may have influenced her empathy method of communication regarding issues of international significance. Curry did not have the opportunity to be a student at a particular school in San Diego, Alameda Oregon, or Virginia over the course of two years because her family was constantly moving. Ashland was where she eventually finished her high school. Her career in broadcasting began with an internship with KTVL Channel 10 Medford in Oregon. At age 22, she was the first female journalist for the station. In Portland in Oregon, she was appointed anchor as well as a reporter for KGW NBC's affiliate. Four years later she moved to Los Angeles as a reporter for KCBS-TV. She was awarded the award of two Emmy Awards during the six years she spent with this station.
